Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 25, 2026

Powerball Checker is built around a simple principle: we should not need to know who you are in order to tell you whether your ticket won. This Privacy Policy explains, in plain English, exactly what data we touch and what we do not.

Data we do not collect

We have made deliberate engineering choices to avoid collecting personal information. Specifically:

Data we do collect

To run a website at all, some basic data is unavoidable. Here is what we have:

Cookies

We do not set first-party tracking cookies. We may set a single functional cookie to remember your locale preference (English or Spanish) if you explicitly switch languages. You can clear this cookie at any time from your browser settings.

Third-party services

We pull live Powerball drawing data from data.ny.gov, a public-data service operated by the State of New York. That service receives our server's IP address but no information about you. We avoid third-party front-end scripts where possible so a visitor checking a ticket does not need to load unnecessary trackers.

When the Powerball checker confirms a non-trivial prize, we sometimes display contextual links to licensed online lottery couriers (such as Jackpocket) or to tax-professional directories. If you click such a link, the destination site has its own privacy policy. These links are clearly labeled as sponsored or affiliate links where applicable.

Ticket photos and browser tools

The photo scanner is designed as progressive enhancement. When your browser supports local text detection, the scan can run on your device so the ticket image does not need to be uploaded to our servers. Browsers that do not support local detection still offer manual entry. Do not upload or email full ticket photos unless you are working directly with an official lottery channel.

If we ever add a server-side image fallback, we will update this policy before launch, explain what is processed, and design it to delete images after the scan is complete. The current product goal is data minimization: collect less, store less, and make the useful path work without accounts.

Children

This site is intended for adults. You must be 18 or older to play Powerball in most states (21+ in Iowa and Louisiana, 18+ in Arizona). We do not knowingly collect any data from minors. If you believe a minor has interacted with our site, contact us and we will delete any associated logs.

Tax calculator inputs

The tax calculator on this site is intentionally stateless. The numbers you enter — jackpot amount, state of residence, filing status — are processed in your browser or transiently on our servers and never persisted. The same applies to the Powerball checker.

Your rights

Because we do not maintain user accounts or persistent personal data, traditional rights like "access," "deletion," and "portability" are not particularly meaningful here — there is nothing to access or delete. If you are a California, Virginia, Colorado, or EU resident and want to confirm this in writing, contact us using the address below and we will respond within 30 days.

Security

Our entire site is served over HTTPS with HSTS enabled. All data exchanges with data.ny.gov are also over HTTPS. We run on Cloudflare's edge network, which provides DDoS protection and TLS termination at over 200 points of presence.

No website can promise perfect security, but minimizing stored data reduces risk. Because we do not maintain account profiles, saved tickets, or payment records, there is less sensitive information to expose if a system fails.

Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Material changes (such as introducing a new third-party service that processes user data) will be announced on the homepage for at least 30 days.
